The Source Dragons are the six Dragons that are responsible for the magic in Ellosia – Gale (Air), Tide (Water), Quake (Earth), Blaze (Fire), Life, and Death.
The stories say that six scaled eggs were left on a star. Bursting from his egg first, Life blessed the rest with the ability to hatch. As Gale, Tide, Quake, and Blaze emerged, the star’s surface dimmed and shifted, fed by their magic. Winds whipped up breathable air, water smothered the glowing surface, land burst from the choppy waters, and fire cleansed the dry surface, preparing it for life.
One egg remained unhatched and forgotten.
As the Dragons grew, they shed scales, teeth, and claws which grew into different creatures. Their population continued to grow on their own with each passing century, leaving the unclaimed bodies behind until the world was overrun with the living and the dead. The five Source Dragons retreated to their overlook of the world, unsure what to do.
And then the final egg cracked.
The five Source Dragons watched Death emerge from her egg and go right to work without a word. She started harvesting those fallen the longest, bodies dissolving into ash once their essence was collected. Once she gathered the essence of all the dead, she disappeared, replaced by twin moons in the sky.
Those living celebrated their lives and the lives of the fallen under the full moons until they waned into mirroring crescents.
When the moons disappeared from the sky, Death returned.
It’s said that during the new moons, Death escorts all the sourcer essence she’s gathered over the last moon cycle to the Summer Garden and the Winter Woods.
The Source Dragons maintain an off-hand approach to Ellosia and each other. They meet once a century to discuss the state of the world in their temple that hovers above The Wilds, but they normally amount to nothing more than petty squabbling and a reluctant agreement to meet again next century.
Although Source Dragon sighting rumors exist, no sourcer has seen them for over a thousand years.
